If you are not renewing you membership, please return your club gear as soon as possible. We have new classes beginning next week. If you will be continuing with the club, you are reminded to pay your March dues. This pays our insurance and for gear maintenance and replacement. You fees help us pay for insurance and equipment. Please remember to pay next week. Thanks, Tod From info at helenafencing.org Wed Mar 18 14:26:50 2009 From: info at helenafencing.org (Helena Fencing) Date: Wed, 18 Mar 2009 14:26:50 -0600 Subject: [Fencing] March News Message-ID: Our third beginners class is off to a great start, with a giant turnout. This has meant that we have had to buy a lot of new gear and has depleted the clubs saving. The club pays $40 per mask, $30 per jacket and $25 per dry foil. This means that if we have to purchase new gear for a student, it actually costs the club $95. In the past we have been able to recycle equipment, which means that we have been able to subsidize gear by spreading the cost over several classes. However, with the growth in the club, we have been buying gear faster than we are accumulating fees and dues. At the same time we are looking for a summer facility as the end of the school year approaches I don't yet know the full implications, but it looks like we will have to increase the class fees and dues slightly. As of May 2008 we are going to increase the beginning foil class fee to $75, and monthly dues will go to $30 per month. If you have already prepaid dues, you wil not be effected. For those of you who have your own fencing gear, dues will remain at $15 per month. The increase cost is to recover funds spent on new equipment for the club. --Tod From info at helenafencing.org Fri Mar 20 09:49:40 2009 From: info at helenafencing.org (Helena Fencing) Date: Fri, 20 Mar 2009 09:49:40 -0600 Subject: [Fencing] How much would you pay? Message-ID: I need some guidance. We are looking at leasing a permanent building for the club, and i need to think about dues versus the cost f the lease, heat and electricity, etc. Also the number of members. The least expensive suitable property is $6-8 per sf/year With a fencing strip being around 50 feet long, we probably need about 2,500 sq feet, which works out to be around $1,200-1,1670 per month. With 40 regular members (assuming we can get there) that works out to be around $40 per month per member, excluding heat and electricity. If we have a class of 10 students every 8 weeks, that adds another $375 per month, and one match per month could add another $300-400. Obviously, we don;t have enough regular members yet, but I would like to hear you thoughts. Having our own facility would mean we could have practice any day of the week, plus weekends. I have let them know we are interested. I am waiting to hear about any other times available. Although it's only half, I suspect it's not much different than the situation now. We also plan fencing in the park on Saturdays weather permitting. This is typically 10-12AM in Memorial park by the amphitheater. Tod
