From info at helenafencing.org Sun Nov 2 08:28:24 2008 From: info at helenafencing.org (Helena Fencing) Date: Sun, 2 Nov 2008 08:28:24 -0700 Subject: [Fencing] Nov 3 & 5 and following Message-ID: We will be covering the low line parries this week: Parries in 7 & 8 as well as reviewing footwork and everything else. A few people have asked me what's next. We will be covering a few more items: circular parries, a quick overview of the other four parries (1, 2, 3, 5) and the course of the match. Our last week of formal instruction for the class will be Nov 17 & 19 On the 24 and 26 we will be put everything together into a couple of matches. We will run the matches just like they are run in competition to give you a chance to see what a full match is like. We are also working on setting up an informal match with the Butte fencing club. After the "Introduction to fencing" class concludes, we will continue to have bouting and instruction, focusing on technique and more individualized teaching. We are looking at offering an intermediate foil class as well as a beginner epee class in the near future. With the holidays fast approaching, we may postpone new classes until January, but there will be more instruction along the way. We will continue to meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8. Your class fees have paid your membership through the end of November. For those who will be continuing, dues are $15 per month + a $10 equipment fee per month. We will start checking out gear in the next week or so if you want to practice on your own. I just need to make sure we have enough gear. As noted, you fees go to cover equipment and fees. If you have you own gear (mask, glove, jacket, weapon) you don;t have to pay the equipment fee. We will be mailing out a treasurers report before the end of the year. Also, we are looking for people who are interested in serving as officers. Taryn and I took the job by default, but if someone is interested in serving as President, Vice president or Secretary/ Treasurer, we will nominate and vote for officers in December. For those of you who are interested in purchasing you own gear, let me know. We will probably do a group order near the end of the class and the club gets a 20% discount on most gear from our primary supplier. If you want to look at what's available, you can visit http://www.absolutefencinggear.com/shopping/ . You can purchase gear from any of the vendors listed on our web site http://www.helenafencing.org, but we only get the discount from Absolute Fencing. Finally, I want to thank everyone who has helped make the Helena Fencing Club a success. We hope you will continue with the sport, and encourage other people to give it a try.
